We have been hearing about the candidates’ varying visions in the race to be Conservative leader and Prime Minister. Sadly none of their visions appear to embrace spiritual ambitions.
A friend told me that at a Christian conference he attended this week the speaker said “Your vision should be great enough to drive you to your knees”. There is a lot of truth in that statement – as we truly seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6v33), as we “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called [us] heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3v14), surely we realise how much we need to pray for God’s help?
But what about the great commission to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything [Jesus has] commanded [us]” (Matthew 28v19,20)? We have regularly included a prayer pointer “for many to be saved, baptised and added to the church over the coming months”. Have we a vision for, say, several true conversions and at least one more baptismal service before Christmas? Let’s get to our knees!
