At the daily briefings, Government ministers and the scientific advisers are continually being asked when the current ‘lockdown’ may end. Perhaps you’re desperate to return to ‘normality’ – to be free to get out!
This morning we celebrate the greatest end of the worst ever ‘lockdown’. Christ is risen – He is risen indeed! The tomb is empty – He gloriously and victoriously broke free.
It seems at times that Jesus’ resurrection is described in terms of God managing to transform evil into good – almost as if God had to step in to end successfully the Lord’s lockdown. It’s as though the ending was uncertain but ultimately God achieved it. Nonsense!
Whilst the timing and extent of the ending of our present lockdown are uncertain, there was, in fact, no doubt whatsoever of Jesus’ resurrection triumph. Hints were given in the Old Testament and Jesus was totally clear in declaring on several occasions His forthcoming death and resurrection “on the third day”. The details had been planned and agreed in eternity past and were perfectly fulfilled that first Easter time. God even used the evil of humanity and the devil to achieve Christ’s glorious triumph.
Let us worship and “fix our eyes on Jesus … who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12v2).
Happy Easter and Peace and Grace
