Christmas Celebrations – 23 December 2018

Three weeks ago I wrote about Advent Qualities and referred to the tins / plastic tubs of Quality Street piled high for sale at this time of year.  But what about the tins / tubs of Celebrations I hear you cry?  You can’t have enough chocolate for Christmas can you – and, in any event, as some say, “the trouble with Christmas is that there’s too much religion in it”.

Christmas is surely a time of truly great celebration – don’t you love songs such as “Come and join the celebration, it’s a very special day” and “Come on and celebrate His gift of love”?  And indeed man-made religion can get in the way of real Christmas celebrations which centre on the amazing love, grace and power of God in sending His Son, Jesus Christ, into this world.  Rather than looking for ‘light’ chocolate options let’s meditate again on true Christmas celebrations:

  • L – the stunning Love of God
  • I Immanuel, God with us
  • G Glory to God in the highest
  • H – the Humble birth of our Saviour
  • T Tidings of great joy for all people

May we all truly celebrate the real Christmas story.

Happy Christmas and Peace and Grace

Paul
