This Sunday at 10:30am: Who cares – about my loneliness?
Seeking to know Jesus and to make Him known to others

I think last Sunday was the first time I’ve ever sung “Happy Birthday” to the Queen in church (or indeed anywhere). But Thursday was an especially historic occasion as we celebrated her 90th birthday. The Queen is a remarkable lady and we should thank God for her and remember to pray regularly for her (see 1 Timothy 2v1,2).

The number “ninety” is somewhat unique in Biblical terms – only one book contains a 90th chapter and only one chapter contains a 90th verse. The book, of course, is the Psalms and the chapter Psalm 119. Both actually refer to time / the years – for instance:

• Psalm 90v10a – “The length of our days is seventy years – or eighty, if we have the strength” – the Queen clearly having extraordinary strength!
• Psalm 90v12 – “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”.
However, both these 90th references really direct our thoughts to our eternal God and to His love and grace throughout all of time:

• Psalm 90v1 – “Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations”.
• Psalm 119v90a – “Your faithfulness continues through all generations”.
We rejoice with the Queen, but we look beyond her to a God in Whom we safely dwell (both now and for eternity – Psalm 23v6) and Who is so faithful, through all generations, however old we are and however many years we may live. To Him alone be all the glory!

Peace and Grace
